Searching for information online or ‘Search’ has managed to work its way in to our very DNA. In fact, I’d go as far to say that I’d expect ‘search’ to be added to the genome! The way that we work, play, shop, research and interact with one another has changed…forever.
Organisations, charities, commercial operations and individuals included, are begining to understand the need to expand their digital footprint in order to be ‘seen through the noise’, but for many, understanding how search engines help people find relevant information or even how people use ‘search’ appears to have an air of witchcraft surrounding it…!
As the very structre of our society moves closer to a professional consumer – prosumer – economy, how people create, publish, distribute and ultimately find information and resources on the web will continue to be of great importance for a very long time to come. The need to research just how search – search engine optimisation – and social media are at the heart of everything are key points to explore in this ‘web nouveau’ economy.

Hmmm. Interesting. Not something you would immediately think of , but when you do it becomes blindingly obvious. Being active is the key point isnt t? Actively engaging with your market and grasping the 'fear' nettle, realising it might sting a bit, but you're not gonna die from it!
Search has become the ubiquitous route to finding information, I so ofter hear 'google it' as the first retort to a request for information. With the plethora of social media and real-time search becoming more prevelant, it is easy to see how important they are becoming to information location and consumer 'education'
“All women are wonders because they reduce all men to the obvious” ~Daniel Mainwaring , love that and now I'm wondering how I can get your 'fear nettle' into something.
It amazes me how much search has become part of our lives… I mean, what did we do beofre we could 'google it'…? There are kids growing up that probably never go to a library but they will grow up with a definition in the Oxford Dictionary listing 'Google as:
Google: [Verb]
intr. To use the Google search engine to find information on the Internet.
trans. To search for information about (a person or thing) using the Google search engine.
Fantastic
Ha ha! Thats my very own quote, so you use it wisely now! Its true about the fear nettle though isnt it? There is more fear involved in the idea of it than the reality in my experience.
Glad to be of inspiration.
Unfortunately, your observation on children and libraries is too often true. Lovin' your dictionary def'n of Google,
Thanks Rob
I think libraries need to change the way they look at audience so that they don't end up becoming a 'free resource' for DVDs and Music… Hmmm, might blog about that next time
