Have you ever been asked to take a look at a ‘possible idea’ that could really benefit X, Y or Z but felt implementing it would mean changing the status quo or proposed an idea that meets with a lot of resistance due to internal culture transition issues – i.e. departments “always do their own thing”…
It surprises me how often this takes place and how long this ‘mindset’ has been going for: that feeling that it’s easier to say no than to explore the possibility of looking at something differently. Sometimes organisations pull in so many different directions it’s a wonder that they can move forward at all! It’s like the business units within the organisation each have a rope tied to a single pole and the aim is to get the pole to bend as far over to one side, but all that’s actually achieved is that the pole remains static.
Imagine if Walkers had never entertained the possibility of changing the UK ‘standard’ colour packets of Salt & Vinegar and Cheese & Onion crisps by switching them?
Just because something has ‘always been that way’ doesn’t mean that it’s right or needs to stay that way.
So how’s your status quo? Is it green or blue? Time for a change….?
