God Parent 3.0 and Captain Picard

by Lee Smallwood on October 15, 2009

I’ve been a very proud God Father for exactly one week now to Cameron Nicole.

There are so many things I’m feeling: excited, proud, nervous, to name a few…

But I wonder what the world will be like for her in 5, 10 ,20 years time?

Will social media as we currently know it have replaced the ‘internet’ entirely – maybe even, dare I say it, the need for TV?

Will computers & laptops still be around or will they only be exhibits in the Science museum or Smithsonian along with the Sinclair Spectrum, BBC Micro, Commodore 64?

Will the term ‘@ me’ become a frequently used verb like to Google?

Will schools refer in the future to Social Media as just ‘engagement’ – maybe we should be referring to it as that now… after all fans of Star Trek: Next Generation understand when Captain Picard says ‘Engage’ he means – go forward…

How do we go forward from here? Are we at the same stage now as Bell was when he patented the telephone in 1876? (hopefully a little further down the line – excuse the awful pun!)

But look how much the telephone has evolved in such a relatively short time period…And how much the mobile phone has changed over the last 30 years…

And where will it be in 30 years time? Looking at some of the concept phones I wonder what they will be capable of and how much closer will they bring people together…? And if you’re wondering, yes I am a little jealous…
